Heraclitus of Ephesus (c. 535 – c. 475 BCE) was a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher famed for asserting that change is the fundamental essence of the universe. His doctrines of flux, the unity of opposites, and the divine principle of Logos made him one of the most influential figures in early Western philosophy.
