Blaise Pascal

(1623–1662) · French Mathematician

Blaise Pascal (1623–1662) was a French mathematician, physicist, and philosopher. He is best known for his work in probability theory and the invention of the mechanical calculator. His philosophical writings, particularly "Pensées," are considered among the finest examples of French prose and have had a lasting influence on Western philosophy.
